John Creane of South Kent Harriers took advantage of the absence of course record holder Barry Royden to record a comprehensive victory in the 2002 Red Lion 10K in a time of 33:07. John led from start to finish and not even the need to stop briefly significantly diminished his lead over second placed Neil Renault of Deal Tri. Creane's victory, together with some quality performances by Russell Maddams (third overall) and Peter Russell (who took the Vet 45 prize) led to South Kent Harriers winning the male team prize.

Claire Colmer of Bexley AC was top woman, winning in 39:07, easing away from top veteran Janice Moorkite of Invicta East Kent. Colmer's teammate Kaeti Mackenzie was third but unfortunately their final team member was not high enough to prevent the Dartford Road Runners team (consisting of Bernadette Jameson, Lisa Sell and Laura Sell) from securing the team prize.

Some 300 finishers competed in overcast and still conditions, and this helped the runners' times to a certain extent even though the hilly nature of the course makes super-fast times difficult. All runners received a T shirt to commemorate their achievement, with some lucky finishers also receiving spot prizes.
